Students Run Oakland relies on the hard work and dedication of volunteers from our community. We welcome new volunteers and appreciate your interest in providing support, inspiration, and motivation for the students and the program.
SRO volunteers fill a variety of roles:
- Mentoring and running with students during weekend long runs
- Operating aid stations/water stops to support the students during weekend long runs
- Mentoring and working with students during after school programming, including running and cross-training
- Essential behind-the-scenes roles—please see the Staff page for vacant positions or areas where you are interested in offering your time and expertise
Please read the Volunteer Fact Sheet, which contains important guidelines for volunteering. All volunteers must read, sign, and adhere to our Volunteer Contract, and complete live scan fingerprinting. See the Forms page to download your volunteer paperwork.
If you are a current volunteer, please read about our Volunteer Mentor Model and familiarize yourself with the resources in the Volunteer Handbook. If this is your first time training for a marathon, we highly recommend you follow our sample Volunteer Training Calendar to make sure you'll be physically and mentally prepared to run the marathon with our students.
